BACOLOD CITY — Police arrested one of two suspects in the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy and the wounding of a 16-year-old boy in Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
The suspect was nabbed on Monday, a day after the attack in Purok 4, Barangay Guiljungan.
Police Lt. Col. Norberto Barniso, chief of Cauayan Municipal Police Station, said the victims and their friends were walking home when the two suspects followed them.
The arrested suspect allegedly stabbed the younger victim in the neck and also attacked the older victim in the back.
The 15-year-old was declared dead at a hospital. The 16-year-old is in stable condition and recuperating.
Prior to the incident, the victims had been watching and playing basketball in the area.
Barniso said investigators are looking into whether the attack was motivated by “tripping” or personal grudges.
He said the arrested suspect was tracked down at his residence based on information about his whereabouts. His companion remains at large but has been identified.
Murder and frustrated murder charges will be filed against the two suspects.
