BACOLOD City – The death of a neophyte policeman here last month was confirmed to be a case of accidental firing based on the results of the paraffin test and ballistic examination released last Wednesday.
Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 7, said yesterday, that Patrolman Val Liansing, 24, of Barangay Mansilingan tested negative in the paraffin test, which means that there was no gunpowder residue found in his body.
Liansing suffered a gunshot wound in his jaw while he was reportedly cleaning his personal.45-caliber firearm inside his bedroom on Oct. 30.
His family found him wounded when he was able to run to the bathroom.
On the part of the ballistic examination, Bonilla said the Provincial Crime Laboratory considered the firearm functional and serviceable.
“This means kung usaron mo ang firearm, malupok na siya,” he added.
But during the time of the incident, the firearm was not in the possession of the victim, Bonilla said.
There were reports earlier claiming that the victim allegedly had a problem with his live-in partner which may have triggered him to allegedly commit suicide.
But, with the said results, Bonilla said that the police concluded that the incident was “purely accident.”
