A sugarcane worker was found dead in the middle of a rice field in Sara, Iloilo, on the morning of May 4.
The victim, identified only as alias Elmer, 36, of Barangay Pasig, Sara, sustained three stab wounds to his throat, neck, and ear.
A resident found his body around 6:30 a.m. Monday in Barangay Preciosa, an adjacent village of Pasig.
Lt. Brett Balopiños, Sara deputy police chief, said Elmer’s family last saw him alive around 9 p.m. May 3.
He allegedly left home but did not say where he was headed.
Reports said he may have gone to a house in Preciosa for a drinking session.
Balopiños said police have identified two persons of interest in the incident.
They were reportedly the same people last seen with the victim.
Asked about a possible motive, Balopiños said drunkenness may have led to the incident.
