Student survives jump from Pavia bridge, remains stable

A 22-year-old student allegedly jumped off a bridge in Pavia, Iloilo, on the afternoon of June 24.

Before alias Darren, a resident of Barangay Balabag, Pavia, jumped from Aganan Bridge, traffic enforcer John saw him.

John was unable to stop Darren but immediately checked on him and called for medical assistance.

The victim sustained a fracture in his left thigh and injuries to his head.

The Pavia Emergency Responders immediately provided first aid to the victim.

He remained conscious as he was rushed to Western Visayas Medical Center.

Maj. Bonifacio Alabe Jr., Pavia police chief, said the victim is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery on his left thigh.

His mother was apparently surprised by what he did.

Before the incident, Darren told his mother that he would go to Iloilo City but did not elaborate.

She told police investigators that Darren failed to enroll in school.

He was supposed to graduate from his computer science course.

His mother said she gave him money for enrollment, but he failed to enlist for the school year.

It was learned that the victim received a failing grade in one subject in the previous semester.

However, it was unclear whether this was connected to his failure to enroll.
