The San Antonio Spurs will be missing the services of their superstar Victor Wembanyama for multiple weeks due to a left calf strain injury announced on Nov. 18, 2025.
According to ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) result revealed the injury on his left calf, and the Spurs are just taking extra precautionary measures with more than 70 games still left in the regular season.
The French star last suited up for the Spurs during their tight loss to the Golden State Warriors and skipped the matchup against the Sacramento Kings.
During the game against Golden State, Wembanyama played more than his usual rotation minutes and finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal.
No further details were released on whether he suffered calf tightness after the loss, but Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson revealed that Wembanyama felt something in his left calf.
“I don’t think there was a specific play,” Johnson said.
“And obviously, we’ve seen around this league recently, the calf tightness thing is not something you want to take lightly.”
In retrospect, during the Finals series last season between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton decided to play through a tight calf, which resulted in a torn Achilles in the win-or-go-home Game 7.
Haliburton never returned to the game and could only watch as his teammates struggled against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Oklahoma City.
The Spurs are taking all necessary measures to keep Wembanyama healthy, following his previous recovery from a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) in his right shoulder.
Wembanyama was cleared by the Spurs to return to full-contact training last July, and he is currently having a majestic NBA start, averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3.6 blocks in 12 games played.
