Paramount Pictures has released a one-minute clip teasing the next big-screen adventure of Bikini Bottom’s most optimistic sponge, ahead of The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, which opens in Philippine cinemas on January 14.
Titled “Mysterious glow…,” the clip shows SpongeBob SquarePants and his best friend Patrick Star setting off on another hero’s journey, promising comedy, chaos, and classic undersea antics that have defined the long-running franchise.
The new film is directed by Derek Drymon and features the return of veteran voice actors Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, and Bill Fagerbakke, reprising their iconic roles from the animated series.
Joining the cast are new voices including Isis ‘Ice Spice’ Gaston, Regina Hall, and Mark Hamill, expanding the SpongeBob universe with fresh characters and star power.
In The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends set sail in what the studio bills as their “biggest, all-new, can’t miss cinematic event ever.”
Driven by a desire to prove he is a “big guy,” SpongeBob embarks on a daring mission to impress Mr. Krabs by following the Flying Dutchman, a mysterious ghost pirate, into the deepest parts of the ocean where no sponge has gone before.
The story builds on the enduring appeal of SpongeBob SquarePants, the animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg, which has remained a global pop-culture fixture for more than two decades.
The film is produced by Lisa Stewart, p.g.a., Pam Brady, and Aaron Dem, with executive producers Marc Ceccarelli, Vincent Waller, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary.
It is based on a story by Marc Ceccarelli, Kaz, and Pam Brady, with a screenplay by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman, and is presented by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies in association with Domain Entertainment and MRC.
With its mix of familiar humor, expanded mythology, and a new cinematic scale, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants aims to appeal to longtime fans and a new generation of moviegoers when it splashes into Philippine theaters on January 14.
