ROXAS CITY, Capiz – An 87-year-old farmer was hacked to death by his son who was suffering from mental depression Sunday afternoon at Sitio Proper, Brgy. Damayan Sapian, Capiz.
Police identified the victim as Manuel Olano who succumbed to fatal hack injuries on his neck and other parts of his body inflicted by his son Michael Olano, 53.
The Olanos are both residents of barangay Damayan.
An investigation by Police Staff Sergeant Louie Banate of Sapian Municipal Police Station indicated that Michael went inside Manuel’s house and without any provocation, hacked the latter with a bolo.
Manuel was taken to Mambusao District Hospital but died a few hours later.
Michael fled after committing the crime but he was arrested in a hot pursuit operation by the police.
According to Sanita Olano, her brother-in-law has failed to take his maintenance medicines for depression.
She said the suspect was admitted to the mental hospital in Pototan, Iloilo for treatment and was released in 2017.
It was learned that the suspect was separated from his wife which caused his depression.
Banate said the suspect is facing a parricide charge.
