ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Police arrested a man who allegedly stabbed his father inside their home in Barangay Dinginan here late last week.
Police Chief Master Sgt. Ramil Arcangeles, spokesperson of the Roxas City Police Station, said the suspect, identified only as alias Jonery, 56, was arrested during a hot pursuit operation on the evening of Jan. 4 at a friend’s house in the same barangay.
Arcangeles said a case of frustrated parricide was filed against the suspect through inquest proceedings, and he is currently under police custody.
Investigators said the suspect stabbed his 80-year-old father on Sunday night, Jan. 4, inside their residence in Barangay Dinginan.
Police said the victim was lying in a cradle when the suspect arrived, cut the rope holding the cradle without warning, and stabbed him several times using a bolo.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to walk to his brother’s nearby house to seek help.
The victim was taken to Capiz Emmanuel Hospital for treatment, while police launched a manhunt that led to the suspect’s arrest.
Authorities said they are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
Police said the victim is in stable condition.
