BACOLOD CITY — A 28-year-old woman accused of conspiring with her alleged lover in the killing of her soldier husband and a militiaman was arrested Monday, Oct. 19, in Barangay Bulwang, Mabinay, Negros Oriental.
Police identified the suspect only as alias “Bangbang,” a resident of the village, who was served arrest warrants for murder and parricide issued by a Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Sagay City on Oct. 15.
No bail was recommended for either charge.
According to police, Bangbang was ranked as Sagay City’s No. 1 most wanted person.
The charges stemmed from the fatal shooting of a 48-year-old soldier and a 26-year-old member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) Active Auxiliary in Barangay Maquiling, Sagay City, on May 12, 2026.
The victims, who were wearing civilian clothes, were traveling on a motorcycle from their detachment when two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen attacked them.
Investigators identified a suspected love triangle as a possible motive for the killings.
Following Bangbang’s arrest, police also served a murder arrest warrant Wednesday, Oct. 21, on a 36-year-old man identified as alias “Abat,” of Barangay Tadlong, Mabinay.
Abat was identified by investigators as one of the alleged gunmen in the May 12 attack.
The warrant was issued by the Sagay City RTC on Oct. 15, with no bail recommended.
Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson for Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), said investigators suspected that Bangbang and Abat were involved in an extramarital affair.
According to Malong, Bangbang allegedly informed Abat of her husband’s whereabouts, enabling him to follow the soldier, who was traveling with the militiaman.
Investigators believe the information led to the fatal shooting of the two men.
Malong said Abat had previously been arrested in Mabinay for a drug-related offense.
Police are still pursuing another suspect believed to have accompanied Abat during the motorcycle attack.
Malong said the alleged accomplice remains at large.
The arrests followed the issuance of court warrants, while the criminal charges against the suspects remain subject to judicial proceedings.
