Soldier hurt in Himamaylan clash

BACOLOD City – A soldier was wounded in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) at Sitio Ulot, Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental yesterday.

The Army has yet to reveal the name of the wounded soldier.

Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), said military troopers of the 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) responded to reports on the alleged presence of unidentified armed men in the area reportedly doing extortion activities.

However, the soldiers came across about 10 armed persons which resulted in a brief firefight.

Pasaporte said that the 33rd Reconnaissance Company also figured in a clash with the rebels.

“Ka taas na da na lugar, bukid na gid na part, kadamo cliff sides,” Pasaporte said, adding that the wounded soldier suffered a fracture on his hand when he jumped to hide from the enemies.

Pasaporte said the wounded soldier was then extricated in the area and is now confined in a hospital here.
