BACOLOD City – A soldier was wounded in a clash with suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) at Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental Wednesday night.
The wounded soldier whose name was withheld, was a member of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB).
Colonel Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), said the clash happened around 5 pm as military troopers responded to a report from concerned citizens about the alleged presence of armed men in the area.
Pasaporte said the troopers encountered about 10 to 15 unidentified armed men who later fled from the encounter site.
It was followed by another firefight around 7 pm in the said village where the soldier got wounded.
Pasaporte said the wounded soldier was extricated in the area the following day and was taken to a hospital.
It took a while for the wounded soldier to be taken from the site because it was raining so hard, he said.
