The South Balibago Waterworks (SBW) will soon provide potable water to SM Development Corporation’s (SMDC) Glade Residences in Jaro District, Iloilo City, following the signing of a memorandum of agreement on July 18.
The partnership guarantees a safe, steady, and reliable water supply for more than 2,000 future homeowners of Glade Residences.
Niel Brian Serantes, assistant vice president for Project Development and Management of SMDC, said the collaboration ensures residents will enjoy uninterrupted water access—an essential resource for comfort and peace of mind.
“Water is not merely a utility—it is the lifeblood of our home and the silent partner in every aspect of our daily lives,” he said.
“It allows families to thrive, businesses to prosper, and communities to flourish.”
Serantes said the partnership reflects SMDC’s commitment to building not only homes but communities where residents can live worry-free.
He added that the agreement also marks progress for the Jaro District, addressing a vital need and setting a new standard for urban development.
SBW President Cristina Isabelle Alejandro said the partnership with SMDC showcases the company’s ability to handle large-scale residential projects.
“We take this relationship seriously and commit to meeting the demand requirements of all condominium residents,” she said.
The 3-hectare Glade Residences, which broke ground in July 2022, will feature 11 four-story residential buildings and will soon be joined by the upcoming SM Mall Jaro, which will rise adjacent to the complex.
Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas said the provision of safe and reliable water is crucial to supporting the city’s growing communities and economy.
“Water is very important not only for our households and communities but also for the overall development of the city,” she said.
“If we don’t have water, we cannot attract more investors here.”
SBW currently supplies 13 million liters of water daily, serving more than 7,000 customers across Jaro, including Tagbak, Buntatala, Camalig, Buhang, MV Hechanova, Quintin Salas, Tabuc Suba, Cubay, Balabago, and Bitoon.
By the end of next year, Alejandro said SBW is expected to add 6 million liters per day to its supply, pending the approval of water permits.
