The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is fully committed to helping the country’s nationwide sports program after announcing its plan to build a P50-million sports center facility in Balayan, Batangas.
SMC president Ramon S. Ang confirmed the development and shared that their multi-million project will become a part of the government’s long-term plan in further improving the future of the country’s sports sector.
It was during the opening ceremony of the new Balayan municipal building and government complex when Ang bared their proposal.
According to the SMC tycoon, one of the main reasons why they chose Batangas as the main location for the sports facility is because of the number of talented athletes that came from the area.
Current Barangay Ginebra San Miguel point guard and PBA multi-champion LA Tenorio and volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez are from Batangas, Nasugbu, and San Juan, respectively.
“Through this sports center, which will be part of our company’s overall support for sports development, we hope to get more Balayan residents involved in sports,” Ang said.
This will be SMC’s second sports facility project in three years after the completion of its SMC Sports Complex in Pasig.
The Sports Complex is currently being used by Ginebra, San Miguel Beermen, and the Magnolia Hotshots, three of SMC’s mother teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
“With a growing majority of Filipinos getting protected against COVID-19 through vaccination, there should be greater emphasis on health and fitness for the public in the coming years,” Ang added.
