San Miguel Corporation extended fuel support to the government’s “Libreng Sakay” program as help to the frontliners amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Until June 15, frontliners can avail free fuel in Petron gasoline stations, making it a total of 6.2 million pesos-worth of SMC donated supply to the government.
“Apart from the fuel for shuttle buses, we continue to support our brave medical front liners through our many initiatives. We will continue to support our front liners at this critical time, any way we can,” said SMC president, Ramon S. Ang.
Ang emphasized that as workers and people from Metro Manila will be preparing for the transition to the “new normal” under general community quarantine (GCQ), transportation for the frontliners and workers will still be limited that’s why they opted to extend help to the “Libreng Sakay” program.
“It will be a period of adjustment for everyone, particularly those who are commuting to and from work. As the threat of the pandemic is still here, medical front liners still need to care for patients, particularly those afflicted with COVID-19. We have to make sure that they have reliable and safe transportation going to their places of work everyday,” Ang added.
Aside from the added help to the program, SMC also donated 45,000 liters of fuel for the Department of Transportation (DOTR) shuttle buses, making it a total of 180,000 liters donated all in all.
