BACOLOD City – An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA), who was recently killed in a clash with the military troopers in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, was reportedly involved in various murder cases and had violations of illegal possession of firearms since 2019, according to the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (ID).
Pompeo Landesa, 54, of Barangay Sandayao, was an alleged member of Komiteng Rehiyon Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor (KR-NCBS), according to the Army.
Landesa’s remains was claimed by his family a day after he died in an encounter with the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) at Sitio Taluktok, Barangay Sandayao on July 19.
According to the Army, Landesa joined the armed group in 2005, based on the statement of his family.
In 2019, his family started to encourage him to surrender to the authorities, following their engagement with the Community Support Program teams, but Landesa did not listen.
