BACOLOD CITY — Police Master Sgt. Romulo Galvez Jr. was laid to rest Sunday, 17 days after he was shot during a drug bust operation in Barangay Singcang-Airport on April 9.
The Bacolod City Police Office rendered a 21-gun salute and full honors during his interment at Forest Lake Memorial Park in Barangay Sum-ag in recognition of his service and dedication.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region also paid tribute to Galvez and the legacy of selflessness and bravery he left behind.
“His comrades remember him not only as a dependable officer but as a brother in service, one who inspired others through his humility, professionalism, and steadfast resolve,” it said.
The PRO-Negros Island Region said Galvez’s death serves as a reminder of the risks borne by those in uniform and the sense of duty that drives them to serve beyond self.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Police Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. visited Galvez’s wake at his residence in Barangay Dulao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on April 24 to pay their respects and honor his life, service, and sacrifice.
Remulla expressed his condolences to the family of the fallen officer.
He also paid tribute to Galvez’s courage, dedication, and selfless commitment, recognizing his service to the nation.
Remulla said the country stands united in gratitude for the heroism of police officers who face danger to protect the lives and safety of others.
He assured the family of the government’s continued support and said all necessary assistance and benefits due to the fallen officer would be provided.
Remulla also underscored the importance of standing by the families of uniformed personnel, especially in times of loss, as part of the government’s commitment to those who serve with honor.
Galvez served in the police force for 18 years and was last assigned as an anti-illegal drug operative of Police Station 9.
He was shot by a 32-year-old suspected drug pusher during the April 9 buy-bust operation, according to police.
Galvez died at a hospital due to hypovolemic shock secondary to a gunshot wound, according to earlier police reports.
The suspected drug pusher later died at a hospital, but police have not released the cause of death, saying only the family can obtain information from the hospital.
