ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad caught in a Panay drug bust was on the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) list.
Cogon punong barangay Ariel Basilonia confirmed in a media interview on Thursday, Oct. 9, that the family of SK kagawad Jimlord Barredo was also linked to illegal drugs, noting that Barredo’s father and mother are detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology for alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Basilonia said he earlier spoke with the suspect about his alleged link to the drug trade, but the SK kagawad denied it.
Barredo, identified by police as a high-value individual, was arrested on Wednesday morning, Oct. 8, during a raid at his home in Barangay Cogon by local authorities.
Members of the Panay Municipal Police Station and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency served Search Warrant No. 59-2025 for violation of Republic Act 10591 (illegal possession of firearms) and Search Warrant No. 60-2025 for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) at around 9:05 a.m. against alias “Jim,” an SK kagawad of the barangay.
The operating team included personnel from the Panay Municipal Police Station led by Police Capt. Ronald F. Ton-ogan, the Capiz PDEA led by Investigation Officer II Bob F. Gregorio, the Regional Intelligence Unit 6–Provincial Intelligence Team Capiz led by Police Capt. Dinnes B. Razo, and the 1st Capiz Provincial Mobile Force Company under Police Lt. Jessie B. Lemana Jr.
Police reports said operatives recovered 10 heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing four grams with an estimated street value of PHP 9,000.
Also recovered were a weighing scale, wallet, lighter, improvised scopes, aluminum foils, empty sachets, and a pair of scissors.
The suspect and the confiscated items were brought to the Panay Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
