A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad and his companion were arrested in a police anti-illegal drugs operation on the afternoon of Feb. 21 in Passi City, Iloilo.
Alias Onyok, the SK official, and alias Junjun, both 21 and residents of Barangay Batu, Passi City, were caught in a shabu buy-bust operation in Barangay Man-it.
Passi City police arrested the suspects after they sold a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP1,100.
Upon frisking, authorities recovered five more sachets of suspected shabu and several non-drug items from them.
Lt. Col. Benjo Clarite, Passi City police chief, said the seized drugs weighed about 12 grams, with an estimated street value of PHP81,600.
Police launched the operation after receiving multiple reports about the suspects’ involvement in the illegal drug trade.
A two-week surveillance operation confirmed their participation in drug pushing.
Reports indicate the suspects sourced their supply from the nearby town of San Enrique and distributed it in Passi City.
They are now in police custody and will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Meanwhile, Iloilo police chief Col. Bayani Razalan commended the Passi City police for their efforts in curbing illegal drugs in the province.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
