From barangay captains and kagawads, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s (IPPO) aggressive anti-drug operations have also netted a Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson.
Alias Mar, 26, an incumbent SK chairman from Barangay Del Castillo, Sara, Iloilo, was arrested in a buy-bust operation at Barangay Ardemil, Sara, on the afternoon of Feb. 20.
Anti-drug operatives from the Sara Municipal Police Station arrested Mar after he allegedly sold a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP 5,100.
He was further found with 25 sachets of suspected shabu and a pack of dried marijuana leaves.
Capt. Theodore Roosevelt Saboy, Sara police chief, said the seized shabu weighed around 300 grams with a standard drug price of PHP 2,040,000, while the marijuana was valued at PHP 1,000.
Saboy said the suspect had long been on their watch list for his drug-pushing activities. Police conducted a case buildup against Mar as early as June 2025.
Saboy said they had been receiving several complaints against the suspect’s illegal drug trade.
Recently arrested drug personalities in Sara also named him as one of the illegal drug sources in the area.
Saboy said Mar might have a link to arrested barangay officials in the fifth district of Iloilo.
Mar allegedly sourced his supply from Capiz province and Estancia, Iloilo.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
