Six face illegal cockfighting raps in Roxas City

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Six persons are facing illegal gambling charges after they were caught in an illegal cockfight Friday afternoon, June 24, in Brgy. Dumolog here.
Charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287 (An Act Increasing the Penalties for Illegal Numbers Games) were filed Monday, June 27, against Noel Francisco, 61; Emark Delantar, 31; Marcelo Telles Jr, 40; Joseph Aleligay , 55; Antonio Gredes, 61; and Marlon Dela Cruz, 65.
Investigation by the Roxas City Police Station indicated that the suspects were caught in the act holding a “tupada” in the village.
Recovered from the 6 suspects were two fighting cocks and P1,353 cash.
A concerned citizen informed the police about the illegal activities of the suspects that led to their arrest.
Meanwhile, the barangay council of Brgy. Dumolog was surprised by the operation of the police in their village.
According to Brgy. Kgwd. Pacifico Artillero, they never expected the illegal cockfighting activity in their area.
Artillero said village officials were busy monitoring the beach area during the celebration of the Feast of San Juan de Bautista.
He said that before the operation was held, an individual approached them and asked permission to hold a “tupada.” But they refused as it was illegal.
