BACOLOD CITY — The provincial government of Siquijor has extended PHP 2.5 million worth of assistance to Bogo City, Cebu, following the devastation caused by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO)-Siquijor officer-in-charge Blezela Omictin turned over medicines, vitamins, and bottled water to a hospital in Bogo City on Oct. 11.
Board Member Dr. Stanley Caminero and Dr. Kevin Basco received the aid on behalf of the city.
In a Facebook post, Governor Jake Vincent Villa said the donation was intended for residents of Northern Cebu affected by the Sept. 30 tremor and the magnitude 6.0 aftershock that followed on Oct. 13.
The Sept. 30 quake was also felt in Siquijor, but no major damage was reported.
“Let us all stay alert and be prepared during these times, kay nagsige pa gyud ang pag-uyog sa mga lain-laing dapit sa nasud (because the shaking is still ongoing in various parts of the country),” Villa said.
Aside from Siquijor in the Negros Island Region (NIR), the city government of Bacolod and the province of Negros Occidental have also pledged PHP 5 million in financial assistance to quake-affected communities in Cebu.
The donation includes PHP 3 million from Bacolod and PHP 2 million from Negros Occidental.
