World No. 1 Jannik Sinner proved that he is in a league of his own after scoring his fourth consecutive 3-0 victory following a sweep of Andrey Rublev- 6.1, 6.3, 6.4- to march to the quarterfinals of the ongoing French Open on June 3, 2025.
Laser-focused to reign supreme on the clay surface, Sinner handed Rublev a beating, dominating in all three sets to set up the quarterfinal matchup with Alexander Bublik who earlier got the better of Jack Draper to advance.
Sinner didn’t do any complicated approach as he stuck to his game plan of letting his offense pour from the baseline to establish the tone of the match.
Due to his heavy volume of vicious forehands, Rublev conceded back-to-back service possessions, a result that came after failing to figure out Sinner’s return top spin game.
Sinner cruised past Rublev with ease in the opener and banked on his powerful groundstroke game from the baseline that didn’t allow the Russian ace to regain footing, absorbing an early blowout.
Rublev tried to innovate in the following set after targeting Sinner’s wide side with deep chop strokes, followed by a rush to the net area which proved to be effective in the first two sets.
However, that sole move wasn’t enough to slow down Sinner as the top ATP player decided to fight fire with fire and engage in several fiery exchanges against Rublev in the baseline.
Unfortunately, Rublev fell to Sinner’s trap and discontinued his previous strategy of attacking the net. That sequence in the third set allowed the Italian stalwart to steal the momentum and race to a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Rublev had a blazing start in the third and final set as he immediately took care of his first two service possessions while scoring a near break-point that could’ve positioned him to a one-point lead.
Just like Carlos Alcaraz against Ben Shelton, Sinner went clutch and avoided the break, salvaging two straight points to protect the point and even the score at 4-all.
Sinner then dealt the fatal blow after pulling off the break, followed by another hold to complete the dazzling 3-0 sweep victory.
Before his win against Rublev, Sinner won his matchups against Jiri Lehecka, Richard Gasquet, and Arthur Rinderknech, all via 3-0 sweeps.
