World No. 1 Jannik Sinner extended his perfect run at the Cincinnati Masters with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Canada’s Gabriel Diallo on Aug. 12, 2025, at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Ohio.
After dispatching Daniel Galan in the Round of 64, Sinner carried his momentum into a commanding straight-set victory over one of tennis’ most promising young stars.
Diallo struggled to counter Sinner’s heavy flat topspin shots, which disrupted his usual net-charging style.
In his opening win against Sebastian Baez, Diallo had dictated play with aggressive, high-octane attacks, setting up a second-round clash with the more experienced Sinner.
The newly crowned Wimbledon champion proved too strong, showcasing stellar court command, an extensive offensive arsenal, and defensive precision.
When Diallo tried lobs to disrupt his rhythm, Sinner adapted by leaning on his backhand to collect more points.
Regardless of Diallo’s stroke variations, Sinner remained locked in, sticking to his tactic of targeting the Canadian’s wide side.
The second set turned dramatic as Diallo fought back, breaking his groundstroke slump to force a tiebreaker.
Needing only one break to extend the match, Diallo strung together three consecutive return points to stay alive.
But Sinner regained control midway through the tiebreaker, delivering two decisive overhand smashes to reclaim the lead.
He sealed the win with a down-the-line passing shot that ended Diallo’s run in the US Open warm-up tournament.
Sinner will have only a few hours of rest before facing Adrian Mannarino, who earlier defeated Tommy Paul to advance to the Round of 16.
