What a perfect ending to a dominant campaign.
On Nov. 17, 2025, Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Nitto ATP Finals title after bringing out the brooms on Carlos Alcaraz, 7-6, 7-5, and wrapped up his stint in Turin, Italy, without dropping a single set since the first round of the group stage.
Revenge was never on Sinner’s playbook, especially after losing back-to-back matches against Alcaraz during the U.S. Open finals and the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, but playing consistently from start to finish was what his coaching staff wished him to do.
Sinner quickly received the memo as he pulled off one of the most dominant ATP campaigns of his professional career, sweeping every opponent he faced, including his archrival, Alcaraz.
A chaotic first set immediately put the crowd in an anxious state as both Sinner and Alcaraz didn’t fold under pressure, despite committing costly unforced errors to avoid a deciding tiebreaker.
However, when the extension period kicked off, Alcaraz saw a glimmer of daylight when he broke the deadlock midway, cruising to a 1-0 lead off ridiculous forehand down-the-line winners.
Alcaraz nearly stole the match with a perfectly positioned backhand drive, but the attempt fell short, bouncing at the bottom of the net and helping Sinner escape one of the biggest what-ifs in the first set.
The first 15 minutes of the second set followed the same pattern as the opener, but Sinner scored the biggest service break of the game to pull away and avoid a second consecutive tiebreaker.
Unlike their U.S. Open grand finals matchup, where Sinner had a slow start, the Italian ace quickly pounced on Alcaraz and doubled his power on the return to neutralize the world No. 1’s net finish ability.
Aside from barring Alcaraz from feasting inside the net area, Sinner also had a big serving game, tallying eight service aces built from an 84% winning percentage on the first serve.
In just two sets of finals action, Sinner capped off the championship game with 78 total points won, including two service break points and 23 on the return.
“We are individual athletes, but without my team, this is not possible,” said Sinner during the trophy presentation.
“Celebrating this trophy at the end of the year after such an intense last couple of months, there is no better ending. It was a very, very close match. I saved a set point in the first set, and I am extremely happy with how I handled the situation, and it means the world to me.”
