World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his untouchable campaign in the ongoing Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament after blanking Spain’s Pedro Martinez- 6.1, 6.3, 6.1- on July 5, 2025, in London.
Fresh off two consecutive sweeping victories in the first two rounds, Sinner picked up where he left off and sent a barrage of lightning quick groundstroke winners to clinch the third-round dub, setting up a highly anticipated showdown against former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov in the next stage.
Sinner is yet to drop a single frame out of his total nine set matches in the first three rounds, adding Martinez as his newest prey after eliminating Luca Nardi and Aleksandar Vukic in the first and second round, respectively.
The Italian ace was just too much for Martinez, winning most of the baseline rally exchanges built from an efficient offensive game that piled up Sinner’s total points won to 92 shots.
It was a replica of the first two rounds as Sinner’s signature down-the-line forehands fell inside the line at will, leaving Martinez with no options left but to fight fire with fire and ride on the pace that he is not used to play to.
Sinner’s fast paced point of attack sucked the life out of Martinez, especially in the second set where he conceded nine straight baseline rally points.
Martinez tried to seal the net in hopes of getting easier angles, but Sinner’s high IQ and court generalship prevailed over the tactic as he fired counter lobs and banana forehands to evade the close gap.
Sinner dropped the early exclamation point at the end of the second set when he mounted an insane 6-0 scoring run to move a set away from bagging another sweep.
Martinez got it going in the early phase of the third after scoring two drop shots that put the crowd on their feet, but Sinner provided an early counter with a backhand winner to avoid the service break.
In the final four game sets, Sinner dished out thunderous flat forehands that bounced faster on the grass, compared to the top spin stroke that Martinez retuned with ease.
Sinner smelled blood in his final service possession and made a quick work of Martinez with two aces and a volley winner en route to a one-sided 3-0 win.
The young Italian had his best serving game of the Wimbledon so far, scoring 11 total service aces derived from 79% winning percentage on his first serves.
