BACOLOD CITY — Police are investigating the disappearance of a woman whose car was found abandoned with bloodstains in Sitio So-ol, Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), said in a phone interview that a joint probe is ongoing with the Victorias City Police Station and Hinigaran Municipal Police Station, as the victim is a resident of Victorias City.
According to police, a concerned citizen reported around 3 p.m. that a gray Hyundai Accent was parked irregularly in a sugarcane field.
The driver’s side windshield was broken, and bloodstains were visible on both the driver and passenger seats.
Authorities later identified the vehicle owner, who allegedly left Victorias City at around 5 a.m. on Wednesday and has not returned since.
Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, NOCPPO spokesperson, said the victim’s family has been contacted.
However, the family noted that the woman, a single mother, tends to be secretive.
Catalogo said some documents recovered from the vehicle indicate it was purchased secondhand.
He added that police will coordinate with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to verify the car’s registration and ownership.
He also noted that the location is secluded and distant from residential areas, but police are checking nearby places for potential closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Catalogo said the victim’s family is awaiting her return and remains hopeful for her safety.
