BACOLOD City – Police in Silay City, Negros Occidental warned anew motorcycle riders to stop using “open pipe” mufflers, as they will go after them.
This, after 111 illegal “open pipe” motorcycle mufflers were destroyed by the city government during the ceremonial destruction witnessed by Mayor Mark Golez at the plaza’s covered court last Friday.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Robert Petate, city police chief, said these mufflers were confiscated by the police since 2019, pursuant to City Ordinance No. 2, Series of 2012.
Despite their campaign against the “open pipe” mufflers, Petate said there are still some motorcycle riders who continue to violate the law.
In fact, there were other confiscated mufflers that were not yet included in the recent destruction, as the mufflers were not yet detached from the impounded motorcycles, he added.
Petate said violators are warned for the first offense, and will have to pay a fine of P2,000 and P5,000 for the second and third offenses, respectively.
Petate said some motorcycle riders modify their mufflers that cause disturbance on the road and the motorists.
“May ara man sa iban na mga barangay ga report sa amon sang katunog ka tambutso,” he added.
Petate said traffic enforcers help them in the implementation of the ordinance.
