Silay City mourns soldier killed in clash

BACOLOD City – The City Government of Silay in Negros Occidental mourned the soldier who was killed in a clash with the New People’s Army (NPA) at Barangay Kapitan Ramon on August 20.

The local government remembered the selflessness, bravery, and heroism displayed by Private First Class (PFC) Christopher Alada of Badiangan, Iloilo, a member of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (IB).

“In the recent incident that occured at Hacienda Raymunda, Barangay Kapitan Ramon, Alada made the ultimate sacrifice,” Mayor Mark Golez said via his Facebook page.

The remains of 31-year-old Alada, a father of two, were already transported to his hometown at Barangay Indorohan last Saturday.

Alada died in a firefight against about 10 armed rebels believed to be remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front (NNF).

Two NPA rebels, including a high-ranking official, were also killed in the clash which ensued while the military troopers responded to reports of NPA sightings in the area.

“Our deepest condolences and prayers to the bereaved family of the Late PFC Christopher Alada. We pray that all citizens recognize that because of you, they have the freedom of speech and much more,” Golez said.

The mayor also thanked Alada for his service as he recognized his sacrifice and valor for protecting and defending the nation.
