Shell Energy Philippines Inc. (SEPH) and Greenlight Renewables Holdings Inc. signed a 15-year power supply agreement for a 120-megawatt peak (MWp) solar project in San Isidro, Leyte.
The agreement marked a major milestone in boosting the country’s renewable energy capacity through large-scale solar development.
SEPH committed to purchase electricity from the project’s first phase, which is currently undergoing testing and commissioning.
San Isidro Solar Power Corp., a subsidiary of Greenlight Renewables, operates the project.
This is the first power supply agreement signed since Greenlight’s formation as a joint venture between Emerging Power Inc. (EPI) of Nickel Asia Corporation and Shell Overseas Investments B.V. (SOIBV).
“Our strong partnership with Greenlight, along with our decision to fully offtake from this project, reflects Shell’s commitment to providing cleaner and more affordable energy solutions to the country,” said Bernd Krukenberg, SEPH president.
“We are proud to see the San Isidro Solar Power Project move from vision to reality through this collaboration with SEPH and other partners,” said Jasmin Agbon, president and CEO of Greenlight.
The project’s first phase is expected to begin commercial operations by the second quarter of 2026 and will contribute significantly to the Visayas grid’s renewable energy mix.
Greenlight said future phases are under development in Leyte, Zambales, and Bataan to expand its solar portfolio.
SEPH said the solar-generated electricity will be distributed to commercial and industrial customers seeking cleaner power sources.
The signing also coincided with Shell’s 111th year in the Philippines and the fifth anniversary of SEPH.
