ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Two sachets of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia were confiscated from a detention cell at the Capiz Rehabilitation Center (CRC) on Tuesday morning, June 10.
CRC provincial jail warden Arjuna Yngcong said the illegal items were recovered from Selda 1 during “Oplan Galugad” following reports of drugs entering the facility.
The recovered items were submitted for laboratory examination.
An investigation will be conducted against the person deprived of liberty (PDL) from whom the illegal drugs were recovered.
Yngcong said the drugs may have been thrown from outside the CRC perimeter to avoid detection by prison guards.
He told The Daily Guardian that CRC lacks sufficient personnel to manage the overcrowded provincial jail.
Yngcong said the jail has only 17 prison guards and 20 auxiliary or contractual staff overseeing 331 PDLs.
He added that CRC also lacks mobility equipment and other facilities, concerns that have already been raised with Gov. Fredenil “Oto” Castro.
