BACOLOD CITY – Police will take fingerprints from a severed right hand to possibly identify its owner after it was found dumped in a subdivision in Barangay Sampinit, Bago City, Negros Occidental, last Monday.
Based on the initial investigation, two dump trucks loaded with volcanic soil from Barangay Alangilan arrived in the area to unload materials for the ongoing construction of the residential village last Saturday.
Police said that according to a backhoe operator, he noticed the hand while unloading the materials. However, he ignored it, thinking it was just a glove.
When a driver went to the area to unload a mini roller from a mini dump truck last Monday, he noticed the same but initially thought it was just a glove.
When he came closer to check, he realized it was a severed right hand of an unidentified person.
The hand was brought to Baxter Funeral Homes in Barangay Poblacion for cleaning and proper disposition. The investigation is ongoing.
Authorities have previously reported cases of severed body parts in the area, but police have had difficulties identifying their owners.
The most recent incident was reported last March, when a sack containing frozen body parts, including a mutilated left arm, left leg, and two ears, was left outside the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) office here.
A month later, the NBI identified the owner through a fingerprint analysis.
