BACOLOD CITY – A 17-year-old senior high school student is under investigation after police seized 115 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP782,000 during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Handumanan early Friday.
Police Lt. Richard Legada, assistant chief of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), said officers needed only a short time to monitor the student, who was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
Legada said the operation was launched after receiving and verifying information about the suspect’s alleged activities.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said the teenager will face charges for violating Section 5 (selling of dangerous drugs) and Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Authorities identified the suspect as a high-value individual.
The suspect was turned over to the Social Development Center (SDC), pending the issuance of a certificate of discernment required for filing the case.
Legada added that investigators are looking into the suspect’s possible connections with other drug suspects and how he became involved in illegal activities.
