ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A senior citizen died after being stabbed by neighbors Wednesday evening, Feb. 18, at Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Tinigban, Panitan, Capiz.
Panitan Police Chief PCPT. Ronald Ton-ogan identified the victim as alias Zaldy, 62, a farmer and resident of the said barangay, while the suspects were identified as brothers Edgardo, 55, and Robert, along with alias Eric, all from the same barangay.
Investigation by the Panitan Philippine National Police revealed that the incident occurred at around 9:10 p.m. while the victim was walking home with a friend, alias Edgar, when they encountered alias Eric on a motorcycle, who uttered unpleasant words at them.
This prompted Eric to dismount his motorcycle and call on brothers Edgardo and Robert to attack Zaldy.
The three suspects then took turns stabbing and hacking the victim in different parts of his body.
The victim was immediately brought to a hospital in Roxas City but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
A post-mortem examination revealed that the victim sustained stab wounds to the chest, stomach, waist, and back, which caused his death.
The three suspects fled after the incident.
At around 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, Edgardo voluntarily surrendered to police, while authorities launched a manhunt operation against the two remaining suspects.
Police recovered a 12-gauge shotgun from the crime scene, allegedly owned by the victim’s father.
Murder and homicide charges are being prepared against the suspects.
Investigators are looking into an old grudge as the possible motive, as the investigation remains ongoing.
