BACOLOD City – An elderly man was arrested for alleged cultivation of marijuana plants at his residence in Barangay Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
Police identified the suspect as Fernando Ybañez, 69.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Gil John Despi, city police chief, said they received reports from concerned citizens about the suspect’s illegal activity, prompting them to check.
When police arrived, they saw three pots of suspected marijuana plants at the suspect’s house.
The recovered contraband weighed 30 grams worth P3,600, according to the police.
Despite this, Despi said the suspect is not under their drugs watchlist.
The suspect may face charges for violation of Section 16 (Cultivation or Culture of Plants Classified as Dangerous Drugs) of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
