Senior citizen killed after being hit by bus

BACOLOD City – A senior citizen died after she was hit by a Ceres Liner bus on Rizal Street, Barangay 3, Silay City, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.
The victim was identified by her eldest sister as Maria Consuelo Catalan, 62, of Barangay Rizal, according to a police report.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Darroca, city police chief, said the victim was crossing the street on a pedestrian lane when the accident happened.
However, based on a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera, Darroca said that the victim did not take precautions as she failed to look at both sides of the road while crossing.
The victim was taken to a hospital where she later passed away due to head injuries, according to Darroca.
Meanwhile, Jade Seballos, media and legal officer of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI), assured to provide assistance to the victim’s family.
Seballos said they will also conduct their own investigation on the incident.
