ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 60-year-old man was arrested for carrying an unlicensed firearm at Culasi Port, Barangay Culasi, Roxas City, on January 5.
PCPT. Semdan Sitchon, chief of the Capiz Maritime Police, said the suspect, identified only as “Romeo,” was about to board a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel bound for Romblon when authorities discovered the firearm during an X-ray inspection around 11 a.m.
The unlicensed .38 caliber revolver, along with five live rounds, was concealed in a styrofoam box containing shrimp.
Police revealed that the suspect is a watchman at an elementary school in Panitan and a senior citizen.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the Roxas City Police Station. Charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, were filed against him on January 6.
Sitchon reminded travelers not to carry bladed weapons or unlicensed firearms, especially during the election period, to avoid inconvenience and legal repercussions.
