BACOLOD City – Senator Francis Tolentino on Friday expressed support for the re-establishment of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
Tolentino was in La Carlota City where he, together with Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer and 4th District Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer, led the distribution of financial assistance for burial and medical expenses through the Department of Social Services and Welfare of P3,000 each to 1,500 recipients in the district.
Tolentino said he believes the re-establishment of the NIR will further boost tourism in the area.
He added that this will further make government services available to the residents of the local government units under the jurisdiction of the proposed NIR.
Tolentino also met with the mayors of the 4th district for their proposed projects in their respective areas.
Tolentino said the distribution of financial assistance to the identified beneficiaries is his way of fulfilling a campaign promise that he will come back to extend assistance to those in need.
