A security guard voluntarily surrendered after he allegedly shot a grocery employee inside a mall at Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, on the afternoon of May 10.
Joseph, 37, a security guard of New Mabuhay International Security Agency and assigned as a roving guard at Savemore in Festive Mall, owned up to shooting Mark.
Capt. Joebert Amado, Iloilo City Police Station 5 chief, said Mark is a Savemore employee assigned to the seafood section.
The victim was rushed to the nearby Western Visayas Medical Center.
Based on initial reports, Amado said the incident stemmed from Mark and his co-workers laughing over something while at the grocery’s seafood section.
“The suspect might have thought that he was the subject of their talks,” he added.
Later, Mark and another employee went to dispose of the garbage.
As part of protocol, they were accompanied by a security guard.
In this case, Joseph went with them.
They passed by the locker where the suspect casually asked if Mark and his co-workers were talking about him.
The victim denied it.
When Mark returned to his workstation, he casually asked the guard why the latter thought they were talking behind his back.
It was at this juncture that Joseph allegedly pulled a gun and shot him in the chest.
Following the incident, the area was cordoned off for investigation.
Police are expected to continue their investigation to determine the appropriate charges against the suspect.
