Security guard, livestock seller shot dead

BACOLOD CITY – A livestock seller and a security guard were gunned down here and in Negros Occidental on May 31 and June 1, respectively.

The recent shooting incident occurred on Saturday night, killing a security guard on Locsin Street, Barangay 37.

Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 1, said 30-year-old Benjie Fajardo of Barangay Banago was walking home from duty when an unidentified perpetrator approached and shot him. Fajardo suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and was declared dead at a hospital.

Police recovered five empty cartridges and a deformed slug of a 9mm caliber firearm from the scene. Bonilla noted that Fajardo had mentioned receiving threats recently but did not elaborate.

Authorities are still investigating and are seeking CCTV footage from the area to identify the perpetrator.

Meanwhile, a livestock seller was killed while eating snacks at a sari-sari store in Barangay Amayco, Murcia, on Friday night. Police identified the victim as 38-year-old Jonel Peruelo.

Police Captain Rodney Sarona, deputy chief of Murcia Municipal Police Station, said the perpetrators shot Peruelo from behind. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Police recovered eight empty shells, a deformed bullet, a deformed bullet jacket, a fired bullet of a .45 caliber firearm, and three empty shells of a 9mm caliber firearm from the scene. Sarona mentioned they are considering business-related or personal grudges as possible motives.
