BACOLOD City – A sea turtle was found dead in the coastline of Purok Daisy, Barangay Poblacion, Valladolid, Negros Occidental on June 25, 2019.
Police Captain Joseth Catonina, Valladolid police chief, said Arnel Emplamado found the turtle while walking on the beach at around 3 p.m.
The turtle was two feet wide and three feet long.
Catonina said the turtle suffered injuries, especially its tail.
The residents reported that they found plastic coming out from the turtle’s rectum, which probably caused its death, he added.
The turtle was buried in a beach area through the assistance of barangay officials led by village chief Bill Kratzer and Purok president Arvin Alvarez in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Office.
Meanwhile, a green sea turtle was rescued after it was trapped in a fish corral in Silay City last June 21. It weighed more than 100 kilos.
The sea turtle was later released to the sea.
