“Scary Movie” delivered a franchise-best global opening, earning USD 105 million worldwide during its debut weekend.
The sixth installment of the horror-comedy franchise reunites Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall for the first time in 25 years.
Directed by Michael Tiddes, the film opened in the U.S. with a better-than-expected USD 55 million.
Overseas, “Scary Movie” has earned USD 50.5 million, giving the series its best global opening weekend to date.
The film opens in Philippine cinemas June 10 with an R-16 rating and no cuts.

Finding humor in dark places, including the conventions of horror films, has long been a passion for Marlon Wayans.
“Like they say, laughter is the best medicine,” he explains. “When you can find humor in unexpected situations, that’s when you really become funny. We’re sending up the world around us and it’s dark sometimes, but we know how to bring in the light. Tension, comedy and horror have a similar rhythm. Once you feel that tension, then you know you’re going to be scared. And then here comes a fart joke. Tension, tension, tension, scare, joke. That’s horror-comedy.”
The new film marks a major return for the Wayans family, who helped launch the franchise with the original “Scary Movie” in 2000.
The 2000 film, directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and other writers, became known for spoofing horror hits such as “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
The franchise continued with several sequels, but the Wayans brothers had not been central to the series since “Scary Movie 2” in 2001.
