The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has renewed its partnership with Uratex Dream to support the Gilas 3×3 Women’s team in its continued campaign for international basketball success.
Now entering their second year of collaboration, the partnership aims to build on the momentum gained in the 2024 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series, where the Philippines finished 18th among 51 global teams.
“The SBP values strong relationships with our partners and we’ve seen just how committed Uratex Dream is in helping our female basketball players,” said SBP Executive Director Erika Dy. “We produced great results in our first year together so it was natural for us to pursue even more success moving forward.”
The Philippine team’s best performance last year came during the Wuhan leg of the series, where they secured fifth place—a significant achievement in the highly competitive circuit.
As a result of the team’s performance, the Philippines jumped more than 20 spots in the women’s 3×3 world rankings, a critical boost as Olympic qualification points become increasingly important.
This ranking surge comes at a pivotal time, as the 3×3 basketball slots for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have expanded from eight to 12, increasing the country’s chances for qualification.
“We thank the SBP for once again giving our organization the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of women’s basketball in the country,” said Peachy Medina of Uratex Dream. “The excellent results from the past year’s efforts make it clear that we have to run it back. We laud the SBP for their leadership, and we are honored to be a part of this meaningful endeavor.”
The Gilas 3×3 Women’s player pool for the 2025 season includes returnees and rising stars such as Mikka Cacho, Kaye Pingol, Tantoy Ferrer, Lexi Pana, and Sam Harada.
“The goal is to compete as often as possible and score as many points as possible,” Dy added. “It’s a loaded schedule but we’ve been working hard to help our Gilas 3×3 Women prepare for this series of events. They have been very active both here and abroad and all this experience should be valuable for the 2025 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series.”
The Philippine team aims to improve on last year’s 18th-place finish, beginning with the season’s opening leg in Chengdu, China, scheduled for May 2 and 3.
According to FIBA, 3×3 basketball has been a full Olympic sport since the Tokyo 2020 Games, and national rankings now play a vital role in determining Olympic qualifiers.
Uratex Dream, a team backed by the leading foam and mattress manufacturer in the Philippines, has long supported women’s basketball through local tournaments and national initiatives.
