Greg Slaughter recently expressed his willingness to play for Gilas Pilipinas and is hoping that he can contribute to the country soon as the FIBA Cup qualifiers get the green light to resume.
Currently, the 7 foot-center is in the US and continues to work on his game, participating in private gym sessions every week.
The 32-year-old former Ginebra star center also revealed that he is working with Gary Boyson at the DME Sports Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida the past few months.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) special assistant to the president, Ryan Gregorio, said that Slaughter’s addition to the pool would be welcomed by Gilas and would be important to the PH squad.
“That’s definitely a great development. The height of Greg would obviously be an important addition to our national team. You just do not get that 7-footer out of nowhere,” Gregorio said.
Slaughter already suited up for several FIBA Asia window qualifiers and was also a member of the 30th Southeast Asian Games Men’s Basketball gold medal roster.
SBP director for operations, Butch Antonio, meanwhile said that it will still depend on the Gilas coaching staff because they will be the ones to decide who will remain and will be added to the roster.
