Ilonggos and visitors are invited to join the vibrant Sadsad sa Calle Real, a street celebration happening on Jan. 26 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., as part of the 2025 Dinagyang Festival.
“Watch out for the sadsad of our communities in between the judging areas. Without overhead spaghetti wires this year, it’s going to be a beautiful attraction for everyone. We urge Ilonggos and visitors to join,” said Iloilo City Tourism and Development Officer Junel Divinagracia during a press conference on Jan. 20.
The event will take place in the city’s heritage zone, from the Freedom Grandstand to Calle Real, immediately following the Dinagyang Tribes Competition.
“Let’s dance with the sadsad tribes, showcase our culture, and express our devotion to Sto. Niño,” Divinagracia added.
Six tribes will perform during the event: Tribu Panaad, Tribu Calubihan, Tribu Familia Sagasa, Tribu Irong-irong, Tribu Aninipay, and Tribu Halimaw.
Unlike traditional competitions, the performances will emphasize community engagement over choreography, featuring simple dance steps that spectators can easily follow.
The standout tribe will be crowned “Darling of the Crowd.”
The Sadsad sa Calle Real is open to all, allowing even those without tickets to the Dinagyang Tribes Competition to join the celebration.
“The true spirit of Dinagyang is the coming together of our community,” Divinagracia said.
This year’s festival carries the theme “Buhi nga Pagtuo sa Kinabuhi sang mga Ilonggo”, encouraging reflection on how the faith of Ilonggos has shaped Iloilo City today.
