BACOLOD City – The city government of San Carlos in Negros Occidental has pledged to donate a one hectare lot to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for the construction of the new jail facility in the city.
This development came after Jail Inspector Kevin Bonilla, warden of San Carlos City District Jail met with Mayor Renato Gustilo during their courtesy visit at the Mayor’s office on August 13.
Bonilla expressed his gratitude to the city government for the donation.
He said the city is already processing the deed of donation. The BJMP will then allocate a budget for the construction of the new facility, he added.
The facility which is targeted to be constructed next year, will be relocated near the Sancaville Housing project.
He said they asked assistance from the city government since the jail exceeds its maximum capacity of 100 PDLs.
At present, the jail has 255 PDLs.
Meanwhile, Bonilla also informed the mayor about the current situation of the city district jail and also asked assistance for the rice allowance of the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
