One of the most seasoned tacticians in the Philippine volleyball scene will be taking his coaching talents to Mendiola.
From leading the pack of the UST Golden Tigresses, Kungfu Reyes is now a full-fledged member of the San Beda Lady Red Spikers after the organization formally welcomed him as the new head coach of the collegiate program on June 21, 2025.
This came after UST elevated Shaq Delos Santos as the new chief mentor of the Golden Tigresses, replacing Reyes who filled the program’s top sporting director role.
The development means that Reyes will now serve in the UAAP and NCAA simultaneously, coaching San Beda in the collegiate ranks while overseeing the volleyball program at UST.
Aside from juggling his duties from España to Mendiola, Reyes is still a part of the coaching staff of the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
With the addition of Reyes to the San Beda program, the school now hopes for a better finish in the NCAA after another disastrous eighth-place finish in the tournament with a 4-14 win-loss record.
Since the women’s volleyball competition was added to the NCAA in 1975, San Beda has yet to clinch its first-ever championship title.
In the past five years, the Lady Red Spikers overhauled its coaching staff for five consecutive seasons, and landing Reyes as the top shot-caller became their biggest off-season move so far.
Before accepting the job, the San Beda program underwent four different coaching changes under Nemesio Gavino, Ariel dela Cruz, Edgar Barroga, and Joshua Noda.
