San Agustin expands voter, human rights education project

ILOILO CITY — The University of San Agustin Student Government is preparing to expand its voter education and human rights awareness campaign into surrounding communities after completing the first phase of “Project Boses: Ang Boses ng mga Bosses, Ang Sandigan ng Bayan” on Aug. 28, 2026.

The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Commission on Human Rights Region VI, used a series of dialogues and focus group discussions to promote voter education and human rights awareness among University of San Agustin students.

The project’s planned expansion could broaden those discussions beyond the campus, giving more community members access to civic and human rights education while strengthening the university’s student-led engagement with the public.

Phase 1 formed part of the university’s larger celebration of the Feast of its patron, St. Augustine.

USA Student Government President Marro B. Galvez described the first phase as a successful effort to facilitate discussions and build commitments around informed participation and rights awareness.

The Student Government said it is now in the process of launching Phase 2, which will focus on community extension work.

The university’s Commission on Human Rights Education Center, or CHRE Center, will facilitate the second phase.

According to the Student Government, the CHRE Center is the only facility of its kind in Iloilo City and is housed at the University of San Agustin.

The planned community work marks a shift from the first phase’s campus-centered dialogues to a broader, public-facing program intended to extend voter education and human rights discussions to communities outside the university.

The Student Government said the discussions and commitments generated during Phase 1 provide the foundation for the next stage of Project Boses.

Galvez said the organization is also prepared to provide further details on the results of Phase 1 and its upcoming activities as the program moves into its community extension stage.

Galvez signed the feature request, and USA Student Government adviser Sunny A. Lasala noted it.

The University of San Agustin is located along General Luna Street in Iloilo City.
