BACOLOD City – A man wanted for rape was arrested by police at Barangay VF Gustilo, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental last Friday after 17 years of hiding.
The suspect was identified as Jimmy Meneses, 50, of Barangay Colonia Divina, according to a report from Police Regional Office (PRO)-6.
Joint operatives of Sagay City Police Station and 605th company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB)-6 served the arrest warrant against Meneses, who was tagged as the second most wanted person of the police station.
The arrest warrant with no bail recommended was issued by then Executive Judge Renato Muñez of the Regional Trial Court Branch 60 in Cadiz City on September 28, 2004.
According to PRO-6, the case stemmed from the complaint filed by the victim sometime in 2004.
The victim was on her way home from a benefit dance (binayle), when Meneses allegedly dragged her inside his house where the alleged rape happened.
Meneses allegedly fled to Carles, Iloilo after the case was filed and later to Cebu where he hid for 17 years.
He later returned to Cadiz City thinking that the case was already dismissed.
Meneses is detained at Sagay City Police Station.
