The Sacramento Kings franchise announced on June 25, 2025, that it will retain the player development coaching post held by Filipino basketball legend Jimmy Alapag.
In an official statement published by Sacramento, Alapag’s name was listed as one of the player development coaches under head Paul Jesperson.
The departure of their past chief tactician, Mike Brown, marked a new era in Sacramento’s NBA campaign, as Doug Christie, a former assistant coach, has now been named as the team’s top shot-caller.
Completing the Sacramento coaching staff for the 2025-2026 NBA season are Mike Woodson, Bobby Jackson, Mike Miller, Leandro Barbosa, Dipesh Mistry, Garrius Adams, Shandon Goldman, and Steph Ingo.
Alapag’s coaching career with Sacramento started four years ago, when he was hired by the franchise to become the assistant coach in the NBA Summer League.
It was a great start for the former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team star after steering the Kings to the Summer League championship title.
Alapag worked under the supervision of Jackson, a current assistant coach of the Kings. Together, the pair weaved their coaching board magic when they pulled off a lopsided 100-67 finals win over the star-studded Boston Celtics.
Days after his successful NBA Summer League bid, Alapag earned the nods of Sacramento’s top executives when he was offered a spot in the coaching staff of the Stockton Kings in the NBA G League.
After spending a year and a half in the G League, Sacramento gave Alapag the biggest break of his young coaching career when he became the NBA team’s player development coach.
Since that career-defining opportunity, Alapag maintained his post with the Kings, and is off to another fresh start in the upcoming 2025-2026 NBA season.
