ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The city government has pledged to help a private school restore musical instruments destroyed in a fire that broke out Tuesday morning, Dec. 2.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Ronnie Dadivas expressed support for the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (CPC) Chorale Group, praising its members’ dedication and performances at local events.
He said he does not want the group’s passion and talent in music to fade because of the incident.
The fire gutted the CPC Chorale Music Studio on the CPC Main Campus, where musical instruments and costumes were stored.
The group had planned to use the items in the upcoming International Music Competition in Japan this January, as well as in the Golden Heart Award held Wednesday evening, Dec. 3.
The CPC Chorale Group was crowned champion during the World Choir Games in New Zealand in July 2024.
An estimated PHP 1.2 million worth of property was lost when the studio at the CPC Main Building was destroyed.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire, raised to first alarm status, may have been structural in origin.
Authorities said it started around 10:45 a.m. and was declared out by 11:32 a.m.
Firefighters from BFP-Roxas City and nearby towns, along with the Capiz Citizens Action Group, Ferocity, Roxas City police, and the Roxas City Emergency Response Team, responded to the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
School officials suspended classes pending the results of the investigation.
